Are you interested in investing in a Myzone but you’re unsure which wearable best fits your needs?

Myzone offer a range of fitness trackers that can help to elevate your workout to the next level.

By using Myzone, you can track a range of metrics throughout your workout at your local gym or home gym.

Alternatively, you can utilise your Myzone whether you’re going for a hike or a run, hitting the road on the bike or rowing on the water.

I first used the Myzone MZ-3 at a popular London gym five years ago but the fitness brand have expanded their wearable range to offer more options.

In this article, I’m going to take a look at the Myzone MZ-Switch, discuss how it works and highlight some of pros and cons of this wearable for fitness enthusiasts like me.

What Is Myzone?

Website: www.myzone.org

The Myzone MZ-Switch (Photo: The Sport Review)

Myzone is a fitness tracker and online social platform that rewards effort for all physical activity, helping more people around the world to feel good about exercise.

When I first encountered Myzone, it was at Third Space in London where the fitness club offered members the chance to use a Myzone to track our workouts.

This was an especially intriguing feature during group classes if you’ve got a competitive edge like me, allowing you to see how your metrics compared to other members in the class.

I was using the hugely popular MZ-3 which is a chest strap that allows users to track their heart rate and effort anywhere, collect MEPs and plug into a community that works hard to feel good.

MEPs are Myzone Effort Points. There are five zones which represent a percentage of your heart rate, which Myzone starts to track from your first workout. If your MHR changes over time, Myzone will adjust automatically.

When it comes to MEPs, Myzone uses this system to track your effort as opposed to your fitness levels. MEPs provide the challenge and competition element to the Myzone community.

Myzone released the MZ-Switch to offer more flexibility whether you want to wear your Myzone on your chest, arm or wrist.

How Does The MZ-Switch Work?

The Myzone MZ-Switch (Photo: The Sport Review)

The MZ-Switch allows Myzone users to wear their tracking device in a variety of different ways to cater to your personal preference.

It’s wearable three ways, allowing fitness enthusiasts to switch between the chest, wrist and arm, depending on your choice of physical activity.

You can track your heart rate whether you’re running, lifting weights in the gym, swimming in the pool or rowing on the ergometer or on the water.

Myzone explain on their website that you can monitor and earn MEPs for every single type of physical activity thanks to the integration of both ECG and PPG sensors.

You can track your zone without having to log into the app or be in the gym with a workout screen because MZ-Switch uses a new light indicator to see your zone.

Once you’ve unboxed and full charged your MZ-Switch, it’ll monitor any physical activity for an impressive three to six months of battery life.

The MZ-Switch can be used with fitness equipment brands such as Peloton and Polar – and it can be fully integrated with devices such as the Apple Watch, Garmin and Samsung watches.

Our Verdict

The Myzone MZ-Switch (Photo: The Sport Review)

As I mentioned earlier in this article, I used the MZ-3 a lot in the Third Space gym to compete with other members and track my workouts.

However, I had become accustomed to using the Apple Watch alongside my Peloton workouts over the past few years. So I was intrigued to see how the MZ-Switch would work.

It’s clear the MZ-Switch is a versatile fitness tracker.

I could use the chest strap for a weights workout, the bicep strap for the rower and the wristband for the bike or treadmill.

When I used the MZ-3 chest strap at Third Space, it was sometimes uncomfortable having it on my chest especially if I was on the rower.

When it came to finishing the rowing stroke into the chest, I’d often hit my MZ-3. I didn’t have this problem using the MZ-Switch on my arm rather than my chest.

I also liked that the MZ-Switch has the new light indicator so I can see my zone without having to check my phone.

I didn’t have this problem when I used to wear my Myzone at the gym – but working out from home without a giant screen displaying your metrics, it was a hassle having to grab my phone, open the app just to check my zone – so this was a thoughtful update.

Where To Buy

The Myzone MZ-Switch (Photo: The Sport Review)

You can buy the MZ-Switch on Myzone’s official website. It’s currently priced at $159.99 (USA) or £139.99 (UK).

Wrapping Up – Review Summary

The Myzone MZ-Switch (Photo: The Sport Review)

We’ve reached the end of our Myzone MZ-Switch review.

I really liked the versatility of this Myzone fitness tracking device.

If you’re looking for a heart rate monitor that can track your metrics across a variety of workouts, Myzone will give you ample versatility.

And some of the new features elevate the MZ-Switch to the next level when compared to other devices.

Welcome to another pickleball paddle comparison article. This time, we’re going to be taking a close look at two paddles from one brand, namely the Selkirk Amped Epic and Selkirk Amped S2.

These two paddles are both midweight / lightweight, have similar names and look very similar, so picking between them can be a bit confusing.

In this article, we’re going to take a detailed look at both paddles. We’re going to compare them in terms of their specifications, facts and figures, and also see what actual players are saying about them both. By the time you’re done reading this article, you should have a better understanding about both paddles and which one’s right for you.

So, with the introductions out of the way, it’s time to start taking a closer look at both of these paddles.

Selkirk Amped Epic vs S2 – Things To Know

Let’s quickly cover the basics about the Selkirk brand before getting into the details regarding the Amped Epic and Amped S2.

Selkirk Sport was founded back in 2014 by two brothers and a father – Mike, Rob, and Jim Barnes. Since then, the company has quickly expanded to be one of the leading names in the pickleball space.

Their range of quality paddles is impressive, and Selkirk’s products regularly feature in lists of the top pickleball paddles on the market right now. Let’s now delve into a bit more detail regarding the specific models of the Amped Epic and S2.

The Selkirk Amped Epic (available here on Amazon) is a midweight pickleball paddle with a standard shape and long handle. It can be a good choice for newer players and those with a balanced game, according to Selkirk themselves.

The Selkirk Amped Epic pickleball paddle

On the other hand, the Selkirk Amped S2 (available here on Amazon) is also a midweight paddle, but it features a shorter handle which has been designed to help strategic players. The shorter handle also makes it a great option for players who like to dink their shots and reduce mishits.

The S2 features a slightly larger sweet spot than the Amped Epic and the two paddles have slightly different specifications, despite being very similar overall. We’ll cover the basic specs and figures in the next section.

Selkirk Amped Epic vs S2 – Specifications And Price

As the Epic and S2 are very similar paddles, checking out some of the differences in the specifications can be a useful way to differentiate between them. So, let’s now look at the key facts and figures of both paddles.

Bear in mind that all of the information shown below was correct at the time of writing. The specifications and prices may change from time to time, so be sure to check the product information page on the site you’re shopping from before making a purchase.

Selkirk Amped Epic

• Price (approx): $150
• Amazon Rating: 4.6 out of 5 stars (1,872 ratings)
• Face Material: Fiberglass
• Core Type: Polypropylene Honeycomb Core
• Handle Length: 5.25 inches

• Face Width: 8 inches
• Average Weight (lightweight): 7.2oz – 7.7oz
• Average Weight (midweight): 7.8oz – 8.4oz

Selkirk Amped S2

• Price (approx): $150
• Amazon Rating: 4.6 out of 5 stars (1,872 ratings)

The main differences between the Amped Epic and Amped S2 are the fact that the Epic has a longer handle and is just a little bit lighter than the S2.

However, it’s worth noting that both paddles are available in lightweight or midweight versions, which as the names suggest, make for a slightly lighter or heavier paddle overall. Which weight you go for will ultimately come down to personal preference.

Generally speaking, both paddles are highly rated. As we covered above, they both had the same average score (4.6 out of five stars) on Amazon at the time of writing.

The Z5 was often mentioned as being a great option for tennis players who had turned to pickleball, partly because the Z5 features a tennis handle shape that players of the sport will find familiar. The Onix Z5 was also recommended by players who enjoy using spin in their shots thanks to its rough face.

Among some of the negative comments we found about the Z5 was that it was rated as being quite loud when striking the ball, which may put some people off.

The Radical Elite had lots of positive reviews on Amazon, with some customers commenting on the fact that this paddle has a generous sized sweet spot. The Radical Elite was also favourited by newer players who were still working on developing their game during our research.

Many users on Reddit also reported being happy playing with the Radical Elite as a new or beginner pickleballer.

Our Experience Using The Theragun Elite And Theragun Mini

We tried out both the Theragun Elite and Theragun Mini in 2022. The first thing we should say is that we’re big fans of both devices. Therabody’s products are high quality, and this is noticeable immediately when observing the build-quality and design of the devices.

Theragun Elite Review

The Theragun Elite (Photo: The Sport Review)

It’s worth pointing out that we tried out the 1st gen version of the Mini, which has since been updated to the specs we’ve featured above. The updates include a smaller and lighter design, plus two extra head attachments.

We loved using the Theragun Elite. It’s a really powerful device that we enjoyed using before and after runs during our warm-ups and warm-downs. The triangular design is particularly useful when using it on the back of the legs while standing, for example on hamstring muscles.

The main drawback we observed when using the Elite is that it was definitely considerably louder than the Mini. That being said, the device’s noise could be toned down by adding Therabody’s QuietForce Solution (sold separately).

Using the Theragun Mini was also a pleasure. It’s smaller and lighter than the Elite and is really simple to use. The way the handle is designed also makes it easy to grip and hold during use. We took the Mini away with us abroad on a couple of trips and it was easy to transport and a great addition.

Overall, we’re big fans of both of these devices. If you’re looking for your first massage gun and portability is important to you, then you may want to consider the Theragun Mini. If you’re after something a bit more powerful and sophisticated, the Theragun Elite could be a good choice.

• The Theragun Elite (4th gen) was priced at £375 / $399 on Amazon.

• The Theragun Mini (2nd gen) was priced at £174 / $199 on Amazon.

Where you buy your Therabody device is really up to you. Some users may prefer to buy direct from Therabody, while others might favour the speed and convenience of shopping on Amazon.

Shopping For Padel Tennis Balls – What To Look For

While all padel balls must have specific criteria, they are not all the same and can vary on how they feel to hit from brand to brand. Here are some of the main things to keep in mind when shopping for padel balls.

• Padel Balls Are Not The Same As Tennis Balls – Although some people may choose to play padel with tennis balls, this is generally not recommended. Yes, there are lots of similarities between padel and tennis balls, but they are not the same. Padel and tennis balls are roughly the same size and weight, but the key difference between the two is the air pressure inside the ball. Tennis balls have a higher pressure requirement and therefore have a higher bounce than padel balls, which are much less bouncy. In short, padel balls don’t have as much of a bounce as tennis balls do.

• Quality And Durability – It’s not a surprise to realise that the more often you play, the more often you’ll have to replace your balls. All padel tennis balls have a lifespan. That being said, some options are more durable than others and it’s worth checking to see what people are saying about the quality and durability of the balls you’re considering buying. One way to get a good idea of this is to check customer reviews and what players are saying on social sites such as Reddit.

• Brand And Company – On this page, we’ve only featured padel balls made by high quality and reputable brands. However, it’s never a bad idea to do some of your own research into the brand and company behind the balls. This include reading up about the manufacturer’s history in the sport and how long they’ve been around.

Are you just getting into padel tennis and looking for a place to start with the right racket (paddle)?

Padel is a hugely popular social sport that has continued to grow in popularity alongside regular tennis in recent years. As well as being fun and easy to learn, padel is a great way to meet new people and develop a social circle.

But where should you start when you’re looking for your first padel racket?

In this article, we’re going to bring you everything you need to know about picking out a great padel racket as a beginner. We’re going to cover the main things to keep in mind when shopping for one, and also reveal our pick of some of the top choices available to buy right now on Amazon.

So, with the introductions out of the way, let’s start taking a look at the key things to know about padel and shopping for a racket.

Padel Tennis Sport

(Photo: Adobe Stock)

What Is Padel Tennis?

Padel (also known as Padel Tennis) is an innovative form of tennis that’s known for being fun and easy to learn. Typically played in doubles, padel is played on a small court which is roughly a third of the size of a tennis court, and is a really great sociable activity.

In its current form, the sport originated back in the 1960s when Mexican businessman Enrique Corcuera set up the first-ever padel court at his holiday home in Acapulco. Padel then made its way to countries such as Spain and Argentina and continued to grow in popularity.

Today, although Padel continues to be very popular in Spain and Argentina, it has developed into a worldwide phenomenon. In 2022, it was estimated that there were more than 25 million padel players in more than 90 countries worldwide.

Shopping For A Padel Tennis Racket – Things To Consider

If you’re looking for your first padel tennis racket, it can sometimes be a bit daunting when it comes to picking one. Here are some of the key things to bear in mind when shopping for your first racket.

• Racket Shape And Weight – The two key points to look at when shopping for a padel racket are the shape and weight. Padel rackets come in a range of different shapes, and the main ones are: Diamond, Round and Teardrop. If you’re a beginner, it’s generally better to go for a round-shaped racket, mainly because they have a larger sweet spot and are therefore easier to manage. That being said, essentially you’ll want to go for a racket with a bigger face, and there are plenty of ‘oversized’ options out there, such as ‘teardrop oversize’. The next aspect to look at is the weight. A heavier racket will allow you to produce more power in your shots, however they can also be a bit trickier to control. In general, beginners are better off going for a slightly lighter racket, simply because they are easier to control and get to grips with as you work on your game.

• Brand And Company – It’s always worth taking a bit of time to do some research into the company behind the racket you’re looking at. Are they established in the padel tennis world and do they have a good reputation? All of the rackets we’ve featured on this page are made by high-quality and well-known brands, but doing some of your own research is never a bad idea.

• Customer Reviews – It’s also worth checking some customer reviews to see what people are saying about the racket you’re considering. What are players saying after having used the racket, and what are people saying on social sites such as Reddit? Checking out some comments from first-hand users can be very helpful when deciding which option to go for.

The brand new Wilson Shift V1 tennis racket has been specifically designed to offer an ideal blend of spin and controllable power.

Where to buy: www.wilson.com

Whenever Wilson releases a new tennis racket franchise, it’s worth taking note, and the new Shift line which was released in the summer of 2023 is no different.

In this article, we’re going to bring you everything you need to know about the Wilson Shift. We’re going to cover the key things to know about this impressive racket and also reveal our experience with having used and tested it recently.

So, with the introductions out of the way, it’s time to begin our review of the Wilson Shift V1.

Wilson Shift 99 V1 – Things To Know

As mentioned above, the Wilson Shift line was official launched in July 2023. The new rackets are designed to provide players with the ideal weapon for creating spin and power together.

At the time of writing, there are three different rackets in the Wilson Shift line: The Shift 99 Pro V1, the Shift 99 V1, and the Shift 99L V1.

The main difference between the three different versions is the weight of the rackets. The Pro version is the heaviest (315g unstrung), with the Shift 99 V1 in the middle (300 unstrung) and the Shift 99L the lightest version (285g unstrung).

For the purposes of this review, we’re going to be focusing on the version we tried out, the Wilson Shift 99 V1. For more information on the other two models, you can check out the Shift section on the official Wilson website.

(Photo: The Sport Review)

The Shift line was originally developed within Wilson Labs, the company’s storied innovation arm, and it underwent testing and development with athletes and customers worldwide before being released and finalised this year.

During the development, the sweet spot of the racket was lifted upwards to sit higher in the frame. This was achieved by altering the balance point in the racket to increase the string weight.

So, is the Wilson Shift a good option for you. Simply put, if you’re looking for a good blend of spin and power as part of your game, then it could be an excellent choice.

It’s a great options particularly for players looking for a racket that’s been specifically engineered to produce amazing spin without compromising on power.

Wilson Shift V1 Tennis Racket

(Photo: The Sport Review)

One of the key features of the Shift V1 is the string pattern and bending profile. The racket has been designed to be laterally flexible to help produce both spin and power.

The new Shift also includes Wilson’s new patent-pending ARC 3D frame technology, designed to specifically optimise lateral bending without losing any torsional stability.

Wilson Shift 99 V1 – Key Specifications

So, what are some of the key numbers to know about the new Wilson Shift 99 V1? Here are some of the important specifications to know about if you’re considering buying this tennis racket.

• Head size: 639cm / 99in
• Length: 68.58cm / 27in
• String Pattern: 16 x 20
• Strung Weight: 316g / 11.15oz
• Unstrung Weight: 300g / 10.58oz

Bear in mind that the numbers above apply exclusively to the Wilson Shift 99 V1. You can check out the specifications of the Shift 99 Pro V1 and the Shift 99L V1 on the official Wilson website.

Wilson Shift V1 Tennis Racket

(Photo: The Sport Review)

It’s worth noting that the Shift 99 V1 has somewhat similar specifications to the Wilson Burn 100 V5, which we also recently reviewed. The weight of the two rackets are the same, along with the length. However, the head size of the Shift is smaller, and the newer racket also features a different and innovative 16×20 string pattern, compared to the 16×19 of the Burn V5.

We love the ‘icy’ arctic look of the Shift range. The frame has a matt finish and features a really cool colour-shifting, prism texture. The grip is dark grey and head bumper is translucent to fit the overall look and feel of the racket.

According to Wilson, the feedback they received from players and customers about the overall look and feel of the racket during the testing phase was largely positive, so the colour scheme remained largely unchanged.

Wilson Shift V1 Tennis Racket

(Photo: The Sport Review)

How Does It Play?

The Wilson Shift V1 is a great racket for a modern player looking for spin and power from their shots. We tried out the 300g (unstrung) version of this particular racket and were pleasantly surprised.

Most of the rackets I’ve played with recently are around the 300g unstrung mark, so it was easy to adapt to the Shift.

What’s notable about this racket is the good blend between both spin and power. The Shift range is specifically designed to facilitate great spin, but it has not been overdone and the racket still has ample power.

We’ll come back and update this section of the review once we’ve played with the Wilson Shift a bit more.

Wilson Shift V1 Tennis Racket

(Photo: The Sport Review)

Price And Where To Buy

The new Wilson Shift 99 V1 is one of the brand’s premium rackets. At the time of writing, it costs $269 / £240 unstrung from the official Wilson website, making it one of the pricier options in Wilson range.

It’s definitely worth browsing the Shift section on the official Wilson website for yourself, as they do offer discounts and promotions from time to time.

Generally speaking, we think it’s better to buy your racket directly from the manufacturer where possible. Wilson also offer a custom stringing service, so you can receive your racket ready for use.

It’s also worth taking a look on Amazon to see what’s available, as many of Wilson’s rackets are available there and elsewhere online.

Anything Else To Bear In Mind?

As there are currently three versions of the Shift available, it’s worth taking the time to consider which may be the best option for you. The Pro version is the heaviest, and if you tend to gravitate towards a lighter racket, then the 99L version may be a better choice. Check out the specific section on the Wilson website for more details.

Where possible, we do recommend that you visit your local racket sports store. This can give you the chance to hold a few different rackets in your hand and see what feels good for you.

Visiting a store can also give you the opportunity to get some tailored advice and tips from store staff, who can use their experience to help you to choose the right option.

If you do end up shopping online like many of us do, just be sure to familiarise yourself with the returns, refunds and exchanges policy of the site you end up making your purchase on.

Wrapping Things Up – Review Conclusion

So, that brings us to the end of our look at the Wilson Shift 99 V1. We’ve walked you through the key things to know about this impressive new racket and have also covered what it’s like to play with.

If you’re game is built around spin and power, then the Shift could be a really good choice. Wilson really need no introduction as one of the world’s best tennis brands and the Shift is an excellent addition to the company’s already impressive line-up.

Are you looking for a new pickleball paddle to bring more control to your game?

Gaining more control and touch from your shots can help you to continue to develop your pickleball game. While lots of players are looking for pickleball paddles for spin or power, it’s easy to forget how important touch and control are in the sport.

In this article, we’re going to bring you everything you need to know when it comes to picking out a pickleball paddle to help increase your touch and control. We’re going to cover the main features and points to look for, and also reveal our pick of some of the best options on the market available on Amazon right now.

So, with the introductions out of the way, let’s begin taking a look at why you may want a paddle that offers more control and what to look for when picking one out.

Pickleball Match

Shopping For A Pickleball Paddle For Control – Things To Consider

With its lightweight balls and compact court size, pickleball really is a sport where control and touch are key. Finding the angles and wrong-footing your opponents with changes in power and placement is fundamental to a solid all-round game.

There’s a lot of focus on spin and power when it comes to shopping for paddles – and rightly so. These are key techniques that are important for any good player.

Best Pickleball Set

(Photo: Adobe Stock)

However, sometimes the underrated aspect of control is overlooked, and if you feel that your game could do with more touch, then finding the right paddle can really give you a boost.

Of course, not all pickleball paddles are created equal, so here are a few key points to bear in mind when shopping for one specifically to add some control and touch to your game.

• Surface Material – Graphite and Carbon Fibre are two of the most common materials used for pickleball paddle faces. Both of these types of paddles can help to offer more touch and control than other options, so look for these when you’re shopping around.

• Core Thickness – Generally speaking, it’s a good idea to look for paddles with a slightly thicker core if you’re after more control. This is because the thicker paddle face can help to increase vibration dampening and allow you to enjoy more feel and touch as you hit your shots.

Best Pickleball Bag

(Photo: Adobe Stock)

• Sweet Spot Size – Choosing a paddle with a larger sweet spot on its surface will make it easier for you to hit accurate shots more regularly. A general rule of thumb is that the wider and bigger the paddle face, the larger the sweet spot. Opting for a paddle with a widebody face means that the sweet spot should be slightly larger.

• Brand And Company – It’s always worth spending a little bit of time doing some research into the company and brand behind the paddle. Do they have a proven track history in the sport and is their range of paddles highly-rated? Make sure to also double check that the paddle you’re looking at is USAPA approved to help ensure that it conforms to standard requirements. All of the paddles we’ve featured below are USA Pickleball (USAPA) approved.

• Customer Reviews – We always recommend reading some customer feedback from real pickleball players for yourself before buying a new paddle. This could involve reading some paddle reviews on Amazon, or checking out what other players are saying and recommending on social sites such as Reddit.

Are you looking to spruce up your pickleball paddle with a new replacement grip or overgrip?

The grip part of the paddle is one of the main points that is prone to wear and tear over time, so it’s always a good idea to keep the grip refreshed and feeling good in your hand.

In this article, we’re going to bring you all of the key things to know about picking out a good pickleball grip or overgrip for your pickleball paddle. We’re going to cover the key things to bear in mind and also pick out some top options of both types of grips available on Amazon right now.

So, with the introductions out of the way, let’s begin taking a look at some of the key points to be aware of when it comes to pickleball paddle grips.

Pickleball Overgrip

(Photo: Adobe Stock)

Picking A Pickleball Replacement Grip Or Overgrip – Key Things To Know

The first thing to consider when shopping for a new grip for your pickleball paddle is whether you need a replacement grip or overgrip.

A replacement grip is typically thicker and more cushioned than an overgrip, and is designed to completely replace the grip that originally came with your paddle.

Best Pickleball Gifts

(Photo: Adobe Stock)

To fit a replacement grip, you must first remove the original grip that came with your paddle.

On the other hand, an overgrip is a thinner and less cushioned grip which is designed to be placed on top of your current paddle grip. Overgrips are designed to add some tackiness and moisture absorption to your paddle handle, and need to be replaced more often than a replacement grip.

An overgrip can be fitted on top of the original paddle grip or on top of another overgrip that’s already fitted on the original grip (bear in mind that this will add some extra thickness to the handle).

If your original paddle grip is worn down, then it could be time to change it with a replacement grip. But if your paddle’s original grip is in decent shape, you may want to simply opt for an overgrip to add some more grip and tackiness (and potentially thickness) to your paddle’s handle.

Using an overgrip on top of your original grip (or on top of another overgrip) can also be an effective way of making your paddle’s grip size slightly thicker if this is something you prefer.

If you’re looking to make your paddle handle even thicker in diameter, you can add multiple overgrips on top of each other to achieve the ideal width.

Can You Use A Tennis Racket Grip On A Pickleball Paddle?

If you’ve done any research into pickleball paddle grips for yourself, you may have noticed that there are generally many more options for tennis rackets than there are for pickleball.

So, can you use a tennis overgrip or replacement grip for your pickleball paddle? The answer is probably, but the main thing to bear in mind is that pickleball-specific grips are shorter in length than their tennis counterparts. For this reason, you may have to trim down the length of a tennis grip for it to correctly fit a pickleball paddle.

If you’d rather not deal with that fuss, then it’s best to opt for a pickleball-specific grip.
